How a radio schedule is built

A radio schedule is a set of placements, and each one costs something different. BMAD, or best mix all day, places your spot at random between 6am and 7pm and is the cheapest way to build frequency. Breakfast, 5:30am to 9am, is the most listened-to session and priced accordingly. Drive is the trip home. A live read has the presenter say it in their own words. A sponsorship puts a ten word line in front of the news, the sport or the weather every time it runs.

We are a media buyer, so the schedule is put together for your budget across the placements that suit what you sell, on one station or two, and you see it before it is booked. Rates are per week and the fee is flat and upfront. There is no lock-in with any station we buy from.

The commercial

Radio and TV both need production, and it is where most self-booked campaigns go wrong. We write the script, choose the voice, and produce the spot to the station's specification. For a new customer the first 30 second radio commercial is free; after that production is quoted per spot. Television is a 15 or 30 second commercial produced end to end, shot on site, animated or built from stills, then placed on a schedule with the network.

Questions we get asked

How long should a radio campaign run?

Long enough to be heard more than once by the same person. Most schedules run in flights, a fortnight on and a fortnight off, and the schedule is built for your budget so it does that.

Do you produce the ad?

Yes. Script, voice and production, to the station's specification. The first 30 second radio commercial is free for a new customer.

Which station is right for me?

It depends who you sell to. Each station and each session has a different audience, and we match the schedule to yours rather than the other way round.

Is TV out of reach for a small business?

Not necessarily. A 15 second spot on a regional schedule costs less than most people assume, and on-demand and programmatic TV can be bought in smaller amounts. We quote it against the market.
